Our annual celebration of International Women’s Day WHAT DO THE WOMEN SAY? 2023: Fighters for Freedom Presented in a hybrid format with artists appearing in-person and virtually. Audiences may join in-person or online. Spotlighting the work of extraordinary Middle Eastern women artists who are fighting against injustice through their art. Marjan Vahdat, Persian vocalist; Lujain Jo, Iraqi-born, Beirut-based filmmaker, activist, performance artist; Andrea Assaf, writer, performer, director, with Lubana Al-Quntar, Syrian coloratura soprano, from Art2Action; Mahjabin Khanzada, emerging Afghan performer, directed by Polina Smith from Crescent Moon Theater Productions, accompanied by Layle Omeran, Yemeni Oud musician & singer; Her Story Is, a collective led by independent women writers and artists from the United States and Iraq, including Hanna Mohammed, Jennifer Jean, Thawra Yaqoub, Letta Neely and Elham Nasser Al-Zabaidy. Following the presentations, Executive Artistic Director Sahar Assaf will facilitate an engaging conversation between participating artists and audience. The full program is 120 minutes without intermission.
