Description

The UC Berkeley Department of Music is thrilled to announce the world premiere of The Little Prince, an original two-act opera with music by Tom Pan and libretto by Zijie Yang in fulfillment of the 2023-2024 Musical Theater Prize.
Adapted from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's 1943 novella of the same name, the opera tells the story of an aviator’s encounter with an imaginary “little prince” from an asteroid, his journey through different planets, and finally to his climatic disappearance from a desert. This production aims to pay tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novella, as well his letters with his wife, Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry, published recently in 2021 that shed new insights into his masterpiece.
