The stage becomes a battleground for Hanifa and Adana. Their sisterhood is tested when a light-skinned woman, often labeled "privileged" or "favored" stands face-to-face with a dark-skinned woman who has been stereotyped as "too strong" or "less desirable." Their emotional clash is rooted in a history of privilege, pain and survival. Beneath assumptions and side eyes lies a shared experience of being judged, boxed in, and measured by the shade of their skin.
Exposing eras from 2026 to 1619 of colorism in America. SHADES confronts today’s painful divide between light-skinned and dark-skinned Black women. Asking the question: How did we get here? A powerful call for unity-declaring we are stronger together. We refuse to let colorism tear us apart!
