Description

San Francisco International Arts Festival will return to the Mission district this coming June after an absence of 15 years. With three stages at BRAVA Theater Center, two in the Project Artaud complex (Theatre of Yugen and Joe Goode Annex) and a host of educational at Dance Mission Theater, the Festival program will feature more than 40 ensembles and individual artists giving 60 concerts in a 10-day period. International guests include: classical jazz musician and composer Alex Conde from Barcelona, Spain; performance artist Gata Galli from Brazil; Ani Sukmawati and Yusdinia from Java in collaboration with the Bay Area’s Pusaka Sunda; Adrian Paredes (Mexico City) and Alvaro Flores (London) performing with Bons Tempos Theatre from Marin in “Qaddafi’s Cook” and Bay Area expatriate Elena Duran in collaboration with Nicholas McGegan, ex-artistic director of Philharmonia Baroque with “México de mi Corazón.” A wealth of local companies includes: Dance: Piñata Dance Collective, Ensambles Ballet Folklórico de San Francisco, Ranko Ogura Dance, Nash Baroque & Dance through Time, Steamroller Dance Company, Jessica Fudum, Diamano Coura, Abhinaya Dance Company and Samudra Dance Creations. Music: Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Amelia Romano and Guests, Clyde Leland, Francis Wong, Las Almas Trio, Purnamasari, Neblinas del Pacífico, Fely Tchaco, John Calloway, Dee Spencer, Gisela Tangui and the Voodoo Cabaret and the Navaye Azadi Ensemble Performance Art: inkBoat, Sha Sha Higby, Guta Galli. Spoken Word: the Speakeasy Storytellers, Eth-Noh-Tec, Darius Simpson, devorah major, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Mimi Tempestt and Ayodele Nzinga. Theatre: David Kleinberg, Jason Bayani, Helen Stoltzfus of Black Swan Arts & Media, deCoy Gallerina & Radical Medicine Project with Theatre Movement International, Gamal Abdel Chasten, Lisa A Frias, Put ur Play on Productions, Us in the U.S. and Annie Kahane of Alive & Well Productions.
