Description

Rescued from a car crash that leaves him unable to walk, novelist Paul Sheldon wakes in the secluded home of Annie Wilkes, his self-proclaimed number one fan. But doting convalescent care quickly turns into unhinged rage when Annie learns that Paul’s latest novel includes the death of her favorite character—and Paul is left to fight for his life if he has any hopes of escape. Whether you’re a newcomer to the story or a devoted fan, this spine-tingling, tense cat-and-mouse stage adaptation will grip you until the very end.

Misery is rated R and is recommended for ages 17 and older. Contains onstage violence, gun shots, and strong adult language.

This production has achieved two TBA Highlights!

The Homegrown Achievement. This production is creating jobs and creative opportunities right here in the Bay Area.

The Open Doors Achievement. This production has taken tangible, intentional steps to increase access for Bay Area audiences.

What are TBA Highlights? We're honoring incredible productions across the Bay that are driving the future of theatre forward. The Highlights program uplifts specific shows that have met the important benchmarks required to earn one (or more) of our four achievements: Homegrown Achievement, Going Green Achievement, Reflection Achievement, and Open Doors Achievement. When you see one of these badges you can expect to see theatre produced, rehearsed, and performed according to these values.

TBA is also excited to be the non-profit partner for this production through the Players Gives Back program! In 2015, Palo Alto Players started the Players Gives Back program as a way to raise awareness and financial support for both Palo Alto Players and nonprofits in our community. For each production, they partner with one local nonprofit and collect donations at the theatre during the run of the production through an audience ask. Players then donates the proceeds collected during the run of the production to the nonprofit partner. Some past partnerships have included Magical Bridge Foundation, Family Giving Tree, Palo Alto Community Child Care, Ecumenical Hunger Program, CASA of San Mateo, Abilities United, Avenidas, Music in the Schools Foundation, the Chinese Historical and Culture Project, and Downtown Streets Team. Donations gathered during Misery will benefit the Mary Mason Memorial Lemonade Fund.
