Description

ENCOUNTER is a provocative work with daring physical theater and powerful storytelling. Inspired by Magsaysay Award-winner Mahasweta Devi's story, the production follows the journey of Dopdi, an indigenous woman whose resistance against injustice becomes a compelling testament to courage, resilience, and human dignity. Choreographed and directed by Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda, with a script by S.M. Raju and Aparna Sindhoor, ENCOUNTER features an evocative original score by National Award-winning composer Isaac Thomas Kottukapally. The production presents contemporary choreography, drawing from Bharatanatyam and Kalarippayattu Indian martial arts, along with aerial acrobatics on a 13ft pole and live singing to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally charged performance. Having toured extensively in the US, Canada, and India with more than 100 performances, ENCOUNTER has received praise for its originality and artistry.
