Wedding Day: Non-Union, Paid
"Wedding Day" is a radio play adaptation celebrating the centennial of a short story by Gwendolyn Bennett coming out of the Harlem Renaissance. We are looking for actors to participating in the recording of this radio play on Friday, October 30.
Characters
Narrator – Either male or female, Standard English, carries most of the text.
Paul Watson – Black male, 30s-50s, speaks Black English, deep register, capable of range from rage to tenderness to unraveling confusion
Mary – Female, 20s-30s, white, working-class accent, her scene begins with a street solicitation and then turns into tears and persuasion
Wallace Thurman – Black male, 20s-30s, speaks standard English, matter of fact, authoritative, may double as one of the jazz musicians
Jazz Musicians (two actors) – Black male, 20s-30s, speaks slangy Black English, fulfills dual role of bantering colleague and gossiping commentary
About the Recording
We have booked Studio X Recording in Oakland all day on Friday, October 30 starting at 9:00 am. The Narrator and Paul Watson carry the lion's share of the dialogue, and they may have to be there all day (until 5:00 pm), although I rather doubt it. The other actors should be able to leave after only 2 or 3 hours.
