The play follows a group of five summer camp counselors in their 20s (Lukas, Cassie, Becca, Maeve, and Aidan), discussing the challenges of caring for their campers and making their camp a better place going forward. During the course of the play, an online dispute over a pineapple becomes so divisive a part of US politics as to escalate into militias and eventually civil war. The camp counselors must decide how much to reveal to the children in their care and how to prepare them for the increasingly violent world outside of camp. The play blends naturalism with an absurdism in the vein of Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros. The character Cassie is explicitly not white and is the newest camp counselor. The character Aidan is slightly older than the other counselors and has a lot of new responsibilities this summer.
