Swing Understudy 2, 20s-40s, woman/femme, performer with strong musical theatre background

Theatre Rhinoceros is casting a Swing Understudy for La Cage aux Folles, book by Harvey Fierstein, music & lyrics by Jerry Herman.

Music Direction by Armando Fox

Choreographed by Aaron Simunovich 

Duties

- Understudy to perform the tracks for Anne/Cagelle, Jacqueline/Cagelle, and Marie/Cagelle OFF-BOOK

- In an unprecedented emergency situation, we might ask you to go on for Jacob/Cagelle, or Edouard/Francis ON-BOOK. 

- Required attendance 2 performances per week (dates below)

- Available up to 15 minutes before call for performances

- During the run of performances, you will be called for up to 4 understudy-focused rehearsals - these will be scheduled based on your availability on “dark” days for the theatre. 

Compensation

- $500 stipend, plus $25 per unexpected/non-guaranteed performance

- At least 2 guaranteed performances as your off-book characters - when they occur in the run, and whom you will play for these guaranteed performances, will be finalized before the start of rehearsals

Rehearsals

- March 1 - May 6, 2026 - understudy will NOT be required to attend all rehearsals

- Weekday evenings and weekends as needed, schedule TBD

- Tech week (mandatory rehearsals for understudy TBD): May 7 - May 13, 2026

Performances

Thursday thru Sundays: May 14 - June 14, 2026

Th, F, Sat at 8 PM; Sat (except for May 16) & Sun at 3 PM

Call time ~2 hours before curtain.
