SILVER BEACH is a family saga of estrangement, addiction, and the stubborn affinity of siblings. Set in Southern California, the film follows two adult sisters and their ruinously alcoholic mother as they awkwardly reunite and navigate the aftermath of their mother’s heart attack. In the wake of her implosion, the sisters open up the real possibility of their own redemption.
Characters
Mara: (female, caucasian or half caucasian, early 30s)
Older sister. Poised and a bit aloof. Lives a quiet, introverted life in western Massachusetts as a private school librarian. Grew up in comfort and security with her lawyer father in Boston; she moved there from California after her older sister drowned in the Pacific on her mother’s watch. Depressed, strong-willed, and uninterested in exploring her family’s trauma, Mara appears calmly in control of her life but is actually deeply unhappy.
