Onstage CHOIR Partnership: Volunteer

Cinnabar Theater, Sonoma County’s professional community theater, has an exciting opportunity for an existing choir or vocal group as we are looking to partner with a Bay Area vocal group to play a vital role in an upcoming production of the play The Christians by Lucas Hnath.
This contemporary play tells the story of a thriving church community that faces a theological divide after its pastor delivers a controversial sermon. The play is thoughtful, balanced, and deeply human—it’s not a satire or critique of faith, but rather an exploration of belief, community, and dialogue.
A unique feature of the play is its live onstage choir, which performs four short gospel-inspired pieces throughout the production. We’re seeking a local chorus or vocal group interested in collaborating with us to bring this element to life. This is a fabulous chance for singers to experience performing as part of a live professional theater production. The size of the onstage choir is somewhat flexible but 10 to 15 people would be great and could be a mixed chorus or a woman’s chorus. 

What involvement looks like:

Your existing group would learn the music during your regular rehearsals.

In the final weeks, you’d join our rehearsals to integrate with the cast.

The choir will sing four selections of songs (suggested styles range from gospel to anthemic revival music, e.g., God’s Unchanging Hand, Catch on Fire, I Feel Like Going On, Farther Along). The exact song selection will be decided by the Chorus Director with input from the shows director.

Performance Schedule:
Nine performances over three weekends:

Fridays, April 10, 17, 24 at 7:30 PM

Saturdays, April 11, 18, 25 at 7:30 PM

Sundays, April 12, 19, 26 at 2:00 PM


This project is volunteer participation but we will gladly promote your organization in our materials and may be able to provide a small donation in appreciation.
