Jack's Melody- A Short Film: Non-Union, Paid
“Jack’s Melody” - A Short Film. On his harried journey to see his dying mother, Jack learns she has already passed. In his grief and shock, he stops at a motel for the night and encounters someone who helps him not only start to process the grief, but connect and process through song.
Non-union or SAG (microbudget) Day Rate- $200 and paid rehearsals.
Jack: Male presenting, 20’s. Mostly restrains a traumatic inner emotional journey, it shows through his eyes. Gentle. Hesitant. Basic guitar skills and ability to sing and keep a tune. A trained signing voice is not required. Current drivers license. Lead. 9 shooting days.
Mel: Femme presenting, 40’s. Caretaker energy. Kind, chipper, connective. Gone through deep loss and can recognize it in others. Emotional intelligence. Quirky. Singer-Mezzo or Soprano. Lead. 7 shooting days.
Mr: Humphries: 60s+. An old standards man, who loves the spotlight, and the attention he gets at his weekly open mic night. Had dreams of being in “The Rat Pack”. The more wrinkles the better. Supporting. One shooting day.
Self tape your audition and upload it to the above Audition Form using a private/unlisted link either through YouTube, Vimeo, or other platform.
MEL- Choose an upbeat song you would listen to while you clean. Pick a task in frame, cleaning, organizing or paperwork, and sing your song accapella without looking at the camera. You are concentrated on your task. You are at a good point in your life at this moment, having just come out of a period of grief from losing your dad. You are feeling happy, calm, and possibly sassy. It’s a good day.
JACK- Choose a ballad about hope, and if possible, accompany yourself with a guitar. Perform it as if you are experiencing loss. Remember that this is not about the quality of your voice, but the expression of emotions.
MR. HUMPHRIES- Sing a verse from, “It Had to Be You” (accapella is great!)
