Griot Theater Company is seeking a dynamic actor age 40+ to join our workshop production of The Stories of Akan, a new work blending African American truths with the timeless myths of West Africa.

About the Production

The Stories of Akan is a powerful journey of family, fatherhood, and forgiveness. Told through magical realism, the play follows a young man confronted by the sudden loss of his father. Guided by African folklore, music, and dance, he embarks on a transformative path toward reconciliation—discovering the true meaning of forgiveness.

At the heart of the play lies the legendary trickster Anansi and his father Nyame, the sky god, illuminating a story that is both deeply personal and profound.

Character Breakdown

Asase Ya / Ya

• Represents Mother Earth, the eternal grounding spirit.

• Mother of Anansi, grieving the loss of her husband and the growing distance from her son.
