BOTTICELLI IN THE FIRE: Non-Union, Paid

Audition Non-Union

NCTC is holding non-AEA auditions for BOTTICELLI IN THE FIRE

By Jordan Tannahill

Directed by Richard A Mosqueda

AUDITIONS (in-person): Sun, July 19

CALLBACKS: Tues, July 28

Sandro Botticelli has traded his morals for the comforts of the Medici's favor — and it's been worth it, until now. As Florence burns with a populist uprising, the elite who once protected him imprison the man he loves. From the writer of Prince Faggot comes a hot-blooded queering of Renaissance Italy: a tale of sex, drugs, and censorship, and how much of ourselves we sacrifice when society comes off the rails.

Rehearsals begin: Jan 23, 2027

Performance run: Feb 27 - Mar 28

Pay: $19.61/hr ($3500)

LEONARDO DA VINCI | MALE; 20s; ASIAN, BLACK, LATINE, MENA, SOUTH ASIAN —  The loyal apprentice and lover to Botticelli; femme, pretty, fawn-like.  Leonardo is a talented up-and-coming painter, thinker and all around Renaissance man.  He is discerning, pragmatic, and stands by his values. Sings.

Note: Act 1, Scene 8 and Act 2, Scene 3 of the script contain simulated intimacy and partial nudity. Please refer to the script prior to the audition. CLARICE ORSINI | FEMALE; 30s-40s; ASIAN, LATINE, MENA, SOUTH ASIAN  —  A rich and powerful woman and the wife of Lorenzo Di Medici. She is sexy, confident, tenacious and yet still deeply vulnerable. Clarice seeks affirmation and craves the passion that her life sorely lacks. Sings. Also plays VENUS.

Note: Actors who sing Soprano (classical/pop) are strongly encouraged to audition for this role. Act 1, Scene 2 of the script contains simulated intimacy. Please refer to the script prior to the audition. An intimacy director will be on staff throughout the rehearsal process to ensure a safe, collaborative, and professional working environment. POGGIO DI CHULLU | (Pronounced POE-ZHO) NON-BINARY/GENDERQUEER; 30-40s;  ASIAN, BLACK, LATINE, MENA, SOUTH ASIAN — A painter and bon vivant, a lesser-known contemporary of Botticelli. Poggio is a loyal friend, fighter, and protects his community. He is unapologetically flamboyant, boisterous, and bawdy—a kiki. Sings.

LORENZO DI MEDICI | MALE; 40s; WHITE  — A rich and powerful man with a commanding presence. He is self-serving, virile and dangerous. His charisma can feel suffocating. Also plays HOST. Sings.

MADRE MARIA | FEMALE; 50-60s; LATINE, MENA — A devoted mother who cares deeply for her son, Botticelli. She’s wise and bawdy with an understated humor. Sings.
