What to prepare: Please prepare 2 contrasting 32 bar cuts. Please bring sheet music for each song that is clearly marked for an accompanist. Please also select an animal that we will ask you to physically embody for 30 seconds during the audition.
Callbacks: Sunday, August 23rd from 4-8 PM
Rehearsal dates: 10/26-12/3/26, Generally Mondays-Thursdays from 7-10 PM and Saturdays & Sundays from 12-4 PM with Fridays off (Exact rehearsal calendar will be provided at auditions/callbacks. There is no rehearsal on Thanksgiving or Halloween)
Tech week: 12/5-12/11
Performances: 10:30 AM & 1:30 PM on 12/12, 12/13, 12/19, 12/20, 12/26, and 12/27; 6:30 PM on 12/22 and 12/23
Stipend: $300 travel reimbursement stipend, meals provided between shows on 2 show days
SYNOPSIS:
Waking from hibernation in the Spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make believe... all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Please note that all roles are open to all genders. The vocal ranges below come from MTI, the official licensing website, but we are open to actors adjusting octaves to better fit their voice.
FROG: Caring and loyal. Always looking out for his friends. The calmer, more zen of both he and Toad. Simultaneously adventurous and assured. Can be played by any gender.
Vocal Range: A3-A6
TOAD: A hard worker, but impatient for results. Self-conscious. Stubborn. A good friend to Frog. Timid. Can be played by any gender.
Vocal Range: A3-A5
SNAIL: Determined to deliver mail and fulfill his job as a mail carrier, despite his very slow pace. Actor should have good comedic timing. Can be played by any gender.
BIRDS: The three Birds communicate the passage of time and help set the stage for the story. The birds sing in intricate harmony. Actors should be skilled harmonizers with a good musical ear. Can be played by any gender.
ENSEMBLE: Other ensemble characters include mouse, lizard, turtle, squirrel, and other smaller roles that will be played by 3-5 different actors (this may include doubling with birds.) Can be played by any gender. Open to actors under 18.
