Join award-winning playwright and director Gina Young (she/they) for a weekend intensive that explores whether the form and content of an acting class can both be made feminist with an intersectional lens. Through monologues, scene study, and communal big picture thinking, we'll flip the script on traditional actor training. You might leave with greater knowledge of women/TGNC/queer playwrights, a monologue that expands your range and type, or a paradigm shift about your career. All genders and all levels welcome!
Feminist Acting Class is a series of experiments to determine if the form and content of an acting class can both be made feminist. Adults of all genders and all levels of experience (and teens 16+ with parental consent) are warmly invited to join us in expanding the possibilities for women, trans, and nonbinary people in theatre, film and beyond.
Participants will use scene study, personal excavation, and communal big picture thinking to expand their artistry. You might leave with greater knowledge of women/TGNC/queer playwrights, a monologue that expands your range and type, or a paradigm shift about your career.
ABOUT FEMINIST ACTING CLASS
Created by award-winning playwright and director Gina Young in 2016, Feminist Acting Class has been presented by The Hammer Museum, The Feminist Center for Creative Work, Directors Lab West, The Association for Theatre in Higher Education Conference and Grand Park’s Our LA Voices Festival, as well as at universities including NYU/Tisch, CalArts, The University of Connecticut, Pomona, Loyola Marymount, USC, and Chapman.
ABOUT GINA YOUNG
Gina Young (she/they) is an award-winning queer feminist playwright and director based in Los Angeles. Their work for the stage includes STRAIGHT PLAY (a queer beach blanket musical), BUTCH BALLET, Femmes: A Tragedy, and sSISTERSs. Their short play The Internet is a Place was most recently presented by Left Coast Theatre Co. in San Francisco. Gina is the creator of SORORITY performance salon for new short works by women, trans, nonbinary, and queer performing artists, and she is a member of The Kilroys, The Dramatists Guild, and The Ring of Keys. She is a winner of the Jane Chambers Award for Playwriting, a two time finalist for the Center Theatre Group Sherwood Award for boundary-pushing theatre artists, and a winner of the Humanitas/PLAY LA Prize. They believe in the radical possibilities of theatre and love queering both content and form.

If you cancel within 72 hours of the event we will issue a partial refund. We apologize, but due to the limited enrollment available for this event we are unable to give refunds for cancellations that come 24 hours before the event.
