Spotlight Topic: Financial Reporting

This month, in addition to any other questions you might have for our resident arts finance expert, our spotlight topic will be financial reporting.

What are financial reports, where do they come from, and why do you need them? Whether you’re an individual reporting to a one-time funder or a full-size nonprofit running monthly reports, working in the arts often means working with financial reports. In this month’s Ask An Accountant, we’ll try to answer all your questions about the various kinds of financial reports you may be asked to provide, including:

• Where can I learn how to create the financial reports I need?
• When and why are financial reports actually useful to me?
• What purposes do different reports serve?
• What does a good financial report look like and how do I know if it makes sense?
• How can I clearly explain my financial reports to others?
