SHOUT IN THE DARK: A Guide to Hope & Good Grief

Friday, September 19, 2025 7:30 PM - Sunday, October 5, 2025 3:00 PM (PDT)

Description

We are emerging from a time of pronounced loss – lost lives, lost paths, lost rights. We buried loved ones during the pandemic, saw our leaders throw away our civil protections: voting rights, Roe v. Wade, the ability to organize labor, and more. Amidst so much death, of body, soul, and belief, where is the hope? Choreographer Deborah Slater and playwright Eugenie Chan unite with composer Beth Custer and DSDT dancers to take an experimental deep dive into this loss, exploring how everyday folks find hope.

“Because what if something better is possible, is coming, is just around the corner.

What if there’s something I can do, something difficult and terrifying and real.

What if I have to be brave and honest and vulnerable and what if that helps?

Hope is a bet that the future is better than the past.

And hope is cruel because it’s a bet we could lose.”
