A father and his sons spread the ashes of his wife/their mother in their backyard garden. When a giant zucchini manifests overnight, they each begin to develop language for their individual experiences of loss through their interactions with the supernatural vegetable. But can they also develop a communal vocabulary to express their grief with each other?
Manning explores the vulnerable, messy space between expectation and authenticity, uncovering the tenderness, longing, and connection beneath the stories we inherit about masculinity. Through a deeply personal journey of grief and nurturing, Manning explores what becomes possible when we lean on one another to grow. Tender and timely, the play is a powerful reflection on the relationships that nourish us and the courage it takes to become more fully ourselves.
