AB5 changed the legal landscape for the gig economy. 

In this one-hour presentation, you will learn how this law came to be, what it requires, and how it affects the theater community. Shireen Wetmore and Eisha Perry, employment attorneys with the law firm Duane Morris will discuss AB5’s impact and key questions to consider in determining how to classify theater workers.

About the Attorneys 

Shireen Y. Wetmore’s practice focuses on employment litigation, including class, collective and representative actions, as well as single and multi-plaintiff matters. Her practice includes employment counseling, traditional labor, and advice and counsel regarding administrative matters for diverse industries and employers from tech start-ups to multi-national corporations. Clients look to Ms. Wetmore for guidance navigating the regulatory, legal, practical and business interests impacting hiring and termination decisions and everything in-between. Having started her career in an in-house role, Ms. Wetmore brings a unique understanding of the many business considerations facing her clients. She finds practical solutions to help her clients comply with the complex layers of legal requirements impacting workforce policies, particularly in the wage-and-hour space. She has a detailed knowledge of her clients' business, and a deep, real-world understanding of the broader implications of the legal guidance their outside counsel provides. Ms. Wetmore is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School, and holds undergraduate degrees in Physics and French from the University of Arkansas. 

Eisha Perry is an associate attorney and practices in the area of employment law. Ms. Perry has experience defending employers in single-plaintiff matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination actions. Ms. Perry litigates in state and federal courts, as well as in private arbitrations. In additional litigating, Ms. Perry advises clients in employment law compliance, including updating employee handbooks and policies. Ms. Perry is a 2019 cum laude graduate of University of California College of Law, San Francisco (formerly University of California, Hastings College of the Law), where she was an editor of the Hastings Law Review and a member of the Nationally ranked moot court team, and a cum laude graduate of Loyola Marymount University.
