Find New Material: Monologues from the New Play Exchange

We are delighted to invite you to join New Play Exchange's principal architect and Project Director Gwydion Suilebhan as we introduce the world to NPX's newest feature, the Actor Platform. 

This new tool is an addition to National New Play Network's innovative and now industry standard database of more than 60,000 theatrical works by living writers. Built at the request of NPX's more than 30,000 subscribers, it is designed to help actors of all levels find audition material that is “just right” for them. Actors will be able to search a growing bank of monologues (and the plays they are from) by criteria including length, genre, audition type, audience, and — most importantly — by their own self-selected demographics. 

Together we will walk through the entire platform, exploring its development, purpose, and usage, and discover the array of possibilities for individuals, especially for those needing access to new material to showcase and share their talents in auditions or class work. We will discuss best practices, tips and tricks for finding the material that is “just right” for each situation requiring a monologue, and the many benefits of the different subscription types.

Gwydion Suilebhan is a cultural critic, essayist, and playwright. A lifelong arts advocate, he serves as both the Executive Director of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation and the Project Director of the New Play Exchange for the National New Play Network.

A founding member of The Welders, a Helen Hayes Award-winning playwrights collective in Washington, DC, Suilebhan previously held the position of Director of Brand and Marketing for Woolly Mammoth. Earlier in his career, he worked as a brand and communications consultant for arts and culture organizations.

Suilebhan currently serves on the board of the Alliance for Jewish Theatre. From 2017-2020, he was a member of the Council of the Dramatists Guild of America. He speaks widely on the intersection between the arts and technology in the 21st century.
